We’re delighted to announce that The Lowry Academy has become the first school in Salford to partner with the Music in Secondary Schools Trust (MiSST) – a nationally respected organisation dedicated to transforming young lives through classical music education.
Supported by global musical theatre icon Andrew Lloyd Webber, this exciting partnership will give our students the opportunity to experience the life-changing benefits of learning music.
Through the MiSST programme, every student will receive a minimum of three years of high-quality, structured music education, including their own classical instrument and regular opportunities to perform. Beyond musical skills, the programme is designed to build confidence, discipline, and ambition – qualities that reflect our school values of creativity, resilience, and aspiration.
Since its launch in 2013, MiSST has provided over 19,000 instruments and reached more than 24,000 young people across 35 schools in the UK. Its Andrew Lloyd Webber Programme forms the foundation of the curriculum and reflects Lord Lloyd Webber’s long-standing belief in the power of the arts to change lives.
“Engagement in the arts changes lives,” said Andrew Lloyd Webber. “The positive impact of the arts on health, social mobility, and well-being are now irrefutable. I passionately believe that everyone, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, should be able to participate, and I am thrilled that MiSST’s music programme will make the difference for these young people.”
Principal Claire Coy said:
“This collaboration will allow our students to develop proficiency in a musical instrument and nurture a lifelong love of music. It’s a powerful way to raise aspirations and unlock potential.
Everyone deserves the opportunity to participate in the arts, and MiSST has a proven track record of helping students thrive. We are proud to be the first school in Salford to join this transformative programme and excited to see the impact it will have on our young people.”
This partnership marks an exciting new chapter for The Lowry Academy, strengthening our commitment to providing every student with rich, inspiring opportunities to explore their creativity and realise their potential through the arts.
