The aim of the Geography curriculum is to ensure that students can make sense of the world around them by understanding how the Earth has been shaped by human and physical processes, and how such processes interact, and how human beings have impacted the world in which we live. The curriculum will provide pupils with the knowledge to be able to think like geographers, empowering them to critically engage with current and future geographical debates beyond the classroom. We also aim to provide students with a sense of their own place within their world, with an awareness of Little Hulton locally, regionally, nationally and globally.
The curriculum takes a thematic approach, where knowledge is acquired, developed over time, and finally applied to places via in-depth case studies.
A diverse range of places, people and environments are encountered within the curriculum which helps pupils to develop a broad and balanced view of the world. The curriculum ensures a fair representation of the places studied to avoid a single story and to broaden pupil understanding of different people, places, and environments.

In Year 7, we aim to build students understanding of key Geographical skills, before looking in depth at Development, which is a foundational unit that students need to gain secure understanding of in order to then assess the ranges of impacts and responses to natural and human disasters throughout the rest of Key Stage 3.

In Year 8 we aim to build on the foundation of knowledge acquired from Year 7, for example fluvial (river) processes and the understanding of terms like erosion and deposition, and apply them to more complex scenarios in year 8 topic, for example, coasts.

Year 9 aims to further build on substantive knowledge gained in Year 7 and 8, in order to make students think more deeply about Geography. For example, the topic of Climate Change in Year 9, pupils need understanding of coastal areas in order to assess the impact of climate change on those coastal places.

During Year 10 we begin the GCSE course by studying paper 1 – Living with the physical environment and end the year on fieldwork in preparation for the trip at the end of the year.
